Five Generations

February 19, 2022 by Barb Brown Leave a Comment

Field Notes February 9, 2022

Dad called this morning asking if I could gather the family for a dinner tonight. He said that he had been thinking about eternity (without us) and he was afraid of the possibility that there was nothing after this life. I tried to reassure him, again, that there is something after this. I keep telling him that he will be pleasantly surprised. I truly believe that there is something beyond this life and actually it is more real than life on earth. But he doesn't believe, and he is the one, at 95, nearing that journey into uncharted waters. I was thankful for technology that morning. I was able to send a text to everyone and within minutes my phone started pinging with responses. Everyone said yes, they were available that night, even my great niece Chloe, who had to adjust her work schedule. I was so impressed that they were there for dad as well as for each other.  In the photo below: I'm standing next to my sister Gloria. She is standing next to my nephew Tony and behind him is his dad, Joe. Then there is my great-nephew Conor holding his son, Jameson. Next to Conor is my great-niece Chloe holding Conor's daughter Mia. Next to my dad is Conor's oldest son, Aiden and on the other side of dad is his wife MeiLing.

These photos and the memory of this night will be good to carry into the future. No one knows how long they have on planet earth but at 95 you know that each new day is a precious gift that might be your last. Dad rarely feels well now and is experiencing anxiety. He ate well that night and was happy for a little bit surrounded by love. In the picture of him meeting his great-great grandson for the first time is a smile I have not seen in many years. Tender moments creating tender memories.

February 2022 Holy Nights Reflection

February 1, 2022 by Barb Brown Leave a Comment

The SoulCollage® card I pulled for February I call "I Am Stardust."
I am made of stardust. That's why I feel so drawn to look up into the sky each night I walk outside. I am part of all that is. Under the stars is comforting like being under a handmade quilt, warm and protected. My emotions flow with the moon. I walk on the earth connected to the sky, the moon, the stars, and asteroids. I am small but I am connected to all. Remember to look up when you go out at night.

Each night I chose an unfinished card to complete to add to my Holy Night's journey. For this month I made this card I call "Into The Forest I Go."

The trail is well marked and the sun lights the way for your journey. There is magic in the forrest and the wind is like music blowing through the trees. You are never alone in the forrest. The animals watch from a distance curious, reminding you to be curious about your journey. The bee's message is to "get organized and get to work on that idea you want to develop. Approach your projects with commitment, diligence, and dedication." Squirrel says to "get ready for coming changes by lightening your load, clearing out the things that no longer serve you." And butterfly is here to tell you to "lighten up and stop taking everything so seriously" because you need to get ready for big changes and transformation. (Messages from Animal Spirit Guides by Steven Farmer).

I also drew a card from each of the two oracle decks I'm using this year. Steven Farmer's Power Animal Oracle Cards and The Power Deck by Lynn Andrews.

"It's important and necessary to use all of the life skills you've learned to not get stuck in any rigid thinking, patterns or behavior, or familiar emotional traps. To get unstuck, walk outdoors, do something physical and mindless to shake things up a bit. Be flexible. There are unlimited possibilities as to what will happen next. You will feel much less stress if you allow those possibilities to unfold. Stop fighting the way things are. Life knows what it's doing. Trust that, and life will be much easier."

Feminine

"The world is bereft of feminine consciousness. To bring Mother Earth back into balance, we must bring back our awareness of her. Language is a barrier between us, but woman has always communed with woman in an unspoken language. Her roots are entwined with the essence of Mother Earth, for she too is feminine. Woman is the Keeper of the Planet and must not let her energy be rerooted by the male systems within woman or man. We are all in need of harmony. Mother Earth has been misunderstood but she is the Universe. She is the womb for all that lives. Feminine energy is the energy that embodies the wisdom you need at this moment."

January 2022 Holy Nights Reflection

January 1, 2022 by Barb Brown Leave a Comment

The SoulCollage® card I pulled for January I call "Time to Get to Work." I made this card with the idea of Superman going into the phone booth a simple man and coming out a superhero. There are times in life where we need to reach deep within to gather courage and strength we never knew we had. Show up "as if." As if you're ready. As if you know what you are doing. As if you really have a plan. Suit up and carry on. You can do this and you are never alone. You have help from the unseen realms, angels, spirit guides, your higher self, God. The time to rise up is now. The time to show up is now. It's show time and go time. You can do this!

Each night I chose an unfinished card to complete to add to my Holy Night's journey. For this month I made this card I call "I Am One With All of Nature."

I find peace in the field filled with flowers, hummingbirds, and bees. I hear the bird song urging me to keep going on my journey but remember to take the time to rest, play, stop along the way to notice the life all around. Stop and notice. Stop and listen. There are messages here for you. Take the time to seek solitude and answers in nature. Bee reminds you to "approach your projects with commitment and dedication. Take time to appreciate and enjoy the sweetness of life." Bluebird tells you that this is a very rare and precious moment, so open up all your senses and simply enjoy this time. Relax and lighten up. Hawk reminds you to step back so you can get a greater perspective on your situation. (Messages from Animal Spirit Guides by Steven Farmer).

I also drew a card from each of the two oracle decks I'm using this year. Steven Farmer's Power Animal Oracle Cards and The Power Deck by Lynn Andrews.

"Pelican-Let Go of Your Judgements. Each time you judge yourself or others, you immediately create the illusion of separation-from your environment, other human beings, and most critically, from your creator. This feeling of separation is an illusion and creates pain and suffering. Judging others is really a projections of a shadow aspect of yourself. Once you realize this, there is an opportunity for true forgiveness and the illusion of separation vanishes, returning you to a state of love, acceptance, and peacefulness. "

Flow - South/Red

The painting is entitled Flower and Song. "The flower of your being begins to bloom when you move with the flow of life. It's a process of letting go and allowing. Let the waterfall of life work for you. Become one with the river. Let go and relax in the eternal flow. It's much easier to float downstream than to paddle upstream. To go into the flow of energy in the universe, move into the instinctual side of your nature. The universe of stars and planets at the bottom of the waterfall indicates the universe of your inner self. It is through this life on earth, that you can move into sacred flow."

Holy Nights 2022

December 31, 2021 by Barb Brown Leave a Comment

The 13 Holy Nights is a window of time between December 24th and January 6th. It is a very special time where the veil between the worlds is thin and messages from the divine are easier to receive. This process is a way to capture those messages by setting time aside each night to reflect, journal, meditate, and pull an oracle card or two. Each night represents a month of the coming year and the information you receive on each night sets an intention for the corresponding month. The first night sets the intention for the entire year to come. I learned about this process in my Qigong training many years ago and I have been practicing it ever since. Along the way I have shared it with friends and a few years ago set up a website to share it with a larger community, www.13holynights.com.

Each night during the 13 Holy Nights I spend time in reflection of the year behind me, the year ahead, and the day. I light a candle, read poetry or other inspiring writing, and I pull a SoulCollage® card from my deck as well as a couple of cards from my many oracle decks. This year I used I Steven Farmer's Power Animal Oracle Cards  and The Power Deck by Lynn Andrews. I also decided to pull from my unfinished SoulCollage®, and complete the card adding that energy to my Holy Nights journey.

Intentions for the year, 2022

The SoulCollage® card I pulled for the year I call "At the Edge of The Storm." From where I stand I can see the storm coming. From where I stand I am safe from the storm. I watch in wonder and sometimes disbelief and I keep reminding myself that I am safe from the storm. I have the land to support me, a pillar of fire to warm me, and clear vision of the hawk to rise above the chaos to make wise choices and find a clear path before me. I am safe at the edge of the storm.

The unfinished card I chose to complete for the year I call "Explorer Ready for the Adventure."

Explorer you are ready for this next adventure. You have all you need including our journals from the past show you lessons learned and all of your growth, an empty journal to document your journey, the key to open any door, and your own compass pointing you to true north. Your true north. Owl reminds you to meditate, take time for reflection, and to sit in silence and darkness each evening to really listen to your wise inner self. The Cougar reminds you that you are now a leader in your family and community. Stay strong, clear, and assertive and move forward with faith and courage. Keep your eyes on your goal.  (Messages from Animal Spirit Guides by Steven Farmer).

I also drew a card from each of the two oracle decks I'm using this year. Steven Farmer's Power Animal Oracle Cards and The Power Deck by Lynn Andrews.

"You possess healing gifts from the Divine Spirit and are grounded in your body. The two hot spots for this concentration are your heart and hands. Pay attention to these areas and do whatever you need to do to keep them energetically clear. Don't fear your healing power as it is your destiny to help relieve the suffering of others. As you do so you also relieve your own suffering into compassion and love, which is the purest expression of life energy you can have. That is healing no matter what form."

Vision

This painting is entitled "City of Light." It is about knowledge and the juxtaposition of ancient and current symbols that live within us all. This being stands tall in centeredness, as we all strive to do. Do not be distracted, but rather stay centered in your vision of sacredness, and rise above the ordinary pain of life.  There are times when you will have less vision bringing a sense of unbalance. As your vision grows, and you will see that everything is alive. See the sacredness of all things. Then you will become strong. See power all around you; it is you."
